Summary:

Azira Fell and AJ Crowley are both successful authors in their own right, invited to speak at the same national book festival. Despite a falling out a couple of years ago, they've never actually met in person - so this event is going to be excruciatingly awkward for both of them.

Right?

As it happens, and unbeknownst to them, it seems they share a love of a certain TV show... and being very active parts of its fandom (yep, it's Fanfic Writer Crowley and Fanfic Reader Aziraphale time!)

Excerpt:

Azira managed to hold it together until Ana had left, but her words were what finally did him in because, truthfully, he’d been the one who was so terribly lucky to have wandered into that bookshop while passing the time; to have met the owner, someone who thought in the same language as him, a possibility that at that point in his life had seemed vanishingly small. Scrambling for a handkerchief, he tried to surreptitiously dab at his cheeks: this event was about ensuring the legacy of his friend, not him, after all.

He tried to recover, but pondered over how much bigger his world had become since then. Muriel and Bel had eventually brought their joy into his life, and what a difference that had made. And then, he thought, his gaze lingering fondly at a man smiling with glistening eyes while a young teen dressed up like a secret agent proudly showed off his homemade gadgets, and then along came Crowley.

If Timmy has no powers and will not be getting powers then what kind of hero would he be? Where would he get the cash for all this?

Timmy fights with gadgets and his own strength, but his main weapon is his hammer. He calls it the White Wand (he's a big fan of alliteration), it is stark white and bigger than Timmy is! You do not want to be on the business end of that thing.

Timmy gets gadgets (like a hoverboard, shock absorbing boots, lightweight armor, gauntlets that give him enhanced strength and a better grip for swinging around that big fuck-off hammer) by stealing from AJ's lab. The only thing that he doesn't steal is the white cloak that he wears.

Ok how old is Peri and Timmy in this fic?

Timmy is 22 and Peri is 16. He turns 17 fairly early on in the story. Wanda didn't want him fighting at such a young age, but Peri couldn't sit still, and Cosmo convinced her that they started young, and at least they're there to support Peri.

Plus, it's not like there's any super villains in Dimmsdale!

How long has Sidhe been the hero of Dimmsdale? Did he use to be the sidekick for Law and Order aka his cousin/uncle Jorgen?

Ooh, good superhero name for Jorgen. I'm gonna yoink that 👀

Peri has been an active hero since he was fourteen. Wanda made him start small and would shadow him at first. But Peri is very adverse to being "babied," and he quickly proved his abilities so Wanda doesn't fret over him too much anymore.

Plus, it's not like there's any super villains in Dimmsdale! Haha. :)

With or without powers would Jorgen, Cosmo, and Wanda have taught both boys how to fight?

Timmy has been taught basic self-defense but has never been in a high stress situation, which is why he freezes.

But yes, both boys were taught to fight.

Speaking of why does Timmy decide to go hero?

How different is Peri’s look from Sidhe?

Peri has dirty blond curls and green eyes. Sídhe has purple swirly hair (MUCH more pronounced on the swirls) and purple irises that surround golden pupils. His eyes glow. He looks very different from his civilian self.

Now that both boys are grown will Wanda and Cosmo come out of retirement?

No, they like being retired. Plus they're a little old now for fighting every night. Cosmo had Peri in his early forties, so he and Wanda are in their late fifties.

Will Hazel and the rest of the new Wish crew be in the story?

I don't plan on it, no. If I did implement them, though, here's how:

Cosmo and Wanda would start fostering again now that Peri has moved out. Hazel is their foster kid and she pretty quickly clocks that they're not entirely normal humans. Cosmo and Wanda would use magic around her but absolutely NOT let her fight, haha.

Dev would notice Peri's unusual behavior and figure out his secret identity. Using that as blackmail, he would force Peri to take him under his wing as a sidekick/apprentice. Peri doesn't enjoy it AT ALL, but his hands are tied.

❝ While the vast majority of the United Kingdom’s criminal world could say they had some kind of connection to the Shaw family, AJ was perhaps the only one who could say he had friends in that family and actually mean it. He’d known the three Shaw siblings since they were all kids, what with his parents being favored lackeys of Queenie Shaw and her husband (now ex-husband, and possibly dead ex-husband, but good riddance to the old bastard, really), and for as long as he could remember he’d gladly trailed after them and joined in on their respective schemes, occasionally using the gadgets he liked to come up with and tinker with to help them out further. He wasn’t much of the planning type himself, but like his parents with Deckard, Owen, and Hattie’s own, he was happy to come along and help out, occasionally even taking the blame and suffering the punishment whenever higher powers (their parents) found out what they’d done.

And though he hadn’t followed any of the Shaws into the military or spy game, that didn’t mean AJ’s pattern of following along with their less-than-legal plans died off. He and Owen may have broken off their on-again-off-again hookups when the latter had left for service, but when Owen returned and decided to start his own gang of criminals, it had picked right back up when he’d called up AJ, the best and most inventive mechanic he knew, and offered him both a spot on his new team and the resumption of their bed buddies arrangement. And AJ should have known better, really, should have known that Owen wasn’t as sophisticated at planning as his parents or his brother and sister and that he wouldn’t remain uncaught, but he’d never quite shaken either his follower tendencies or the feelings he had for Owen against his better judgement. So, also against his better judgement, he said yes, falling back into Owen’s schemes and back into his bed, ignoring the feeling in his gut that screamed that none of this was going to end well.

Now it would seem that feeling in his gut was right all along - Owen has been growing steadily more ambitious and less reasonable as time has gone on, and how he wants to get his hands on a device that could potentially end the world as everyone knows it, despite AJ’s desperate protests. So now AJ is forced to do something he’d never imagined doing: betray a member of the Shaw family, the one just a bit in love with no less, and offer his services and knowledge to the crew of driving outlaws led by Dominic Toretto, the only people who might be able to stop Owen.

They don’t trust him at first, of course, which AJ finds is completely fair - but Letty, Dom’s girlfriend whose amnesia Owen has previously used to his advantage, is willing to stick up for him, and slowly the rest of the team seems to be warming up to him, even the bald loudmouth named Roman who was so staunchly against accepting his help at first. And, well, this crew may be very different from anything AJ is used to, but they’re all still incredibly skilled and intelligent and nice once you’ve gotten past their walls, which is more than AJ could ever say for Owen.

AJ may have just betrayed a man he’s known and trusted and even loved since childhood, a member of the family he’s always been loyal to, and he may have just gone against his core nature as a follower… but it seems like he might get a brand new family, and possibly even a new, much better romance than what he had with Owen, out of the deal. ❞

In light of the SAG-AFTRA strike ending (not that I think PBS is really affected, but still, the timing is very suspect), PBS has revealed one of their kids shows for 2024!

Carl the Collector involves the titular raccoon, who is autistic, and his neurodiverse friends as they live a comfy life in Fuzzytown.

This is the first PBS Kids series to lead with an autistic character, but NOT the first series to have one. PBS Kids got that ball rolling with AJ Gadgets from Hero Elementary a few years back (who technically is a lead character, but the series focuses on a group and not on just him primarily), Julia from Sesame Street before that, and Max from Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood just recently.

Carl the Collector joins other shows on the slate for 2024, including the upcoming Lyla in the Loop and Odd Squad UK (though that one doesn't really count as it'll just be marketed as Season 4 of the original Odd Squad series by PBS). We'll be seeing more news of it at PBS's upfront, the PBS Annual Meeting, in May. Keep an eye out!

In honor of April being Autism Acceptance Month, I've decided to list 5 characters from PBS Kids shows who are autistic. Why just PBS Kids, you ask? Because I don't know too many characters with autism from other TV networks other than Farkle from Disney Channel's Girl Meets World, and Dr. Shaun Murphy from ABC's The Good Doctor.

the cycle of inspiration is literally so beautiful like. okay. from what i know edgar allen poe created the detective c auguste dupin for a story that is seemingly the first modern detective story. which lead to the existence of the fictional detectives hercule poirot by agatha christie but also sherlock holmes by arthur conan doyle. the latter of whom in turn inspired conan doyle's brother in law to create aj raffles, the gentleman thief. which inspired maurice leblanc to create arsene lupin, and arsene lupin inspired monkey punch to create lupin iii - which lead to the creation of lupin viii which apparently lead to the inspiration of inspector gadget??? - and also inspired cowboy bebop, and the character of spike spiegel inspired jet from avatar the last airbender - and there were other inspirations involved in all these things too, but it's amazing how one creation can lead to a chain reaction that inspires the creation of so much more it's truly beautiful and breathtaking the way art is inspired by art. you can see the ways these things are all similar, yet also unique and different and have their places in their story. but you can see the traits that are carried on through all of them. isnt it beautiful how legacies intertwine? whatever life is incredible

Timmy's superhero origin story is a lot less glamorous than Peri's.

After being saved from a mugging by Sídhe, Timmy rethinks his entire life. He feels like he was given a second chance, and this time, he wants to be a hero, too, and help people, like Sídhe does.

The only catch is that Timmy doesn't have any powers of his own. He has to do this on his own.

He starts by hitting the gym, and taking self-defense classes. Everything he can learn about fighting, he absorbs like a sponge. He drops out of college (and doesn't tell his family about that, naturally) to make time for it all.

When he was ten, Timmy inputted his DNA into AJ's lab's security system, so now, as an adult, he does the morally correct thing and waltzes in there and takes some of his buddy's gadgets for crime fighting purposes.

Timmy has sturdy armor and shock-absorbing boots, allowing him to run across rooftops and drop down from several stories with ease. He wears a pink bandana around his mouth/nose and a pair of high-tech glasses over his eyes, that allow him to see infrared and through most metals.

His outfit mostly just consists of whatever he doesn't want to get dirty, but his staple is his white cloak, which he normally wears up over his hair.

Timmy's preferred weapon is an enormous fucking hammer. He has smaller weapons too, hidden on his person in case he needs them, but this hammer is bigger than he is and it's like a wrecking ball when he starts swinging it around.

His superhero name is Triple Threat. (Because he's more than just a regular threat, get it?)

Sídhe does not like him at first. He finds TT annoying and pompous, and more interested in the thrill rather than helping people. He's also a HUGE flirt.

But they end up working together more than once just by pure chance, and Sídhe reluctantly has to admit that TT is not only capable, but actually surprisingly compassionate.

The two of them eventually become partners in crime fighting! Which Timmy couldn't be happier about.
